Beacon lit for HM The Queen's Birthday

Beacon bonfire in Llandovery

Llandovery commemorated the Queen’s 90th Birthday by having a Beacon bonfire on Thursday 21st April 2016, to coincide with the other 1,200 or so, being lit throughout the United Kingdom.

The bonfire in Llandovery was organised by the energetic Young Farmers Club, who carried out sterling work in collecting the wood and building the fire. Although the Queen lit the first beacon in Windsor at 7.30pm, our fire was set alight at 8.30 p.m. It was located high up on a hill and could be seen clearly from the town.

The Young Farmers Club and the Mayor would like to thank the Fire Brigade Services who were also in attendance, after receiving a call from a concerned resident; a call to which they were obliged to respond.

To celebrate the official birthday of Her Majesty the Queen there is to be a Childrens Party (in a marquee), in Market Square, Llandovery on the 11th June 2016.  (Primary school children in Llandovery will be invited to attend; adults can join in the fun too in Market Square).
